Dear Daphne: Happy 17 Months

Dear Daphne,

You turned 17 months old this past weekend! The time is passing quickly, but we are cherishing every moment. We celebrated your milestone by taking a fun family walk at the park. You’re not very excited about riding in your stroller anymore, though. There’s a big world to see and you want to explore it on your own two feet.

Your personality is developing more and more with each passing day. You are so kind and sweet, and when we’re out in public, you wave to everyone walking by.

You have a few favorite books: Never Touch a Dinosaur, Counting Blessings, and, your all-time favorite, Goodnight Little Daphne. You love to read and you’ll bring your favorite books over to me when you’re ready for story time.

You are so silly because one of your favorite things to do right now is brush your teeth. You love to carry your toothbrush and toothpaste around with you. Sometimes, you even fall asleep holding your toothbrush! Someone said this means you’ll be a dentist when you grow up.

Chicken is a hit-or-miss food for you, but you absolutely love fruits and vegetables. Cantaloupe, grapes, and avocado are your favorites. I was so proud because you recently fed yourself rice soup with a spoon like a big girl.

Now that the weather is getting nicer, you want to play outside all the time. Your dad and I are so happy you share our love of the outdoors.

You have started saying more words and you’re getting better at telling us what you want. You can say quite a few things now, including “cheese,” “I do,” “nah!” and, of course, “teeth.”

Your dad and I love to watch you grow and explore the world. You are learning new things every day and you always put a smile on my face. Happy 17 months, Daphne! We love you.
